Date From

1920

Two men using a mechanical reaper, horse-drawn, to harvest a grain crop. The grain is likely to be oats which was the predominant crop in Ayrshire in the days of horsepower. After harvesting oats could be ripened in ''stooks'' (sheaves of grain). After the move to combine harvesters, barley crops became predominant as oats took to long to be combine ripe.
